OpSED Community

Welcome to the OpSED Community project. There's a lot of ways to get involved in the community:

Jam Sessions

We have weekly in-person meetings in Portland, OR to get work done. In addition to work there's usually a lot of fun to be had at these meetings too, because, well, if you can have your cake and eat it too, why not? Beer, pizza, music, and lots of good times at these meetings.. and lots of serious work getting done at the same time.

IRC

Have a question to ask? Maybe just a general litigation support or eDiscovery question, or something OpSED specific? Connect to the #opsed channel on freenode's IRC server, and you'll find at least one or two of us there ready to answer your question in real time. That's better service than your cable company, because we stay up late. ;)

Quick general instructions:

  1. Download an IRC client (lots available for all platforms)
  2. Point it at chat.freenode.net for the server, and choose your nick
  3. type the IRC command "/join #opsed"

More specific instructions:

Pidgin is a cross-platform IM client that supports, amongst other things, IRC chatting. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, and numerous other platforms.

To setup Pidgin for opsed's IRC do this:

  1. Download and install Pidgin for your OS
  2. Go to the Accounts Menu and select Manage Accounts
  3. Click 'Add...' button
  4. From the Protocol dropdown, select "IRC"
  5. In Username, type in whatever nickname you want to display. This can be anything.
  6. In Server, if it isn't already, make sure it's chat.freenode.net or irc.freednode.net
  7. Don't worry about the password.
  8. Click "Add", then exit out of the windows you were in, back to the main Pidgin window.
  9. Go to the Buddies Menu and select "Join a chat"
  10. From Account drop down, select the account you just made (if you don't already use Pidgin, it should default to that account since it's the only one).
  11. In Channel type "#opsed" (no quotes), then click Join

Now you're in, and you can talk with the rest of the OpSED community.
